How to choose the best lawyer for my parenting case?
Applying to the Family Court for orders about your children is likely one of the most stressful experiences any of us will go through. Appointing an experienced solicitor to help guide you through the process is likely something that you will consider. When you are looking at which solicitor to appoint, it can be daunting to try and decide who would be the best person to help you.
You may be aware that one of the steps that a Court may take early on in the proceedings is to appoint an Independent Childrens Lawyer (ICL) to assist the Court during the conduct of the case. An Independent Childrens Lawyer has a unique role in Family Law cases, they are required to always act in the best interests of the children. That gives a different perspective to the case.
Independent Childrens Lawyers are either employed directly by Legal Aid Queensland, or they are lawyers in private law firms who undertake the work as an ICL as part of their wider case load.
When choosing a lawyer to act for you in the Family Court, a solicitor who is accredited by the Qld Law Society as a specialist in family law, and who is also an experienced ICL would surely be a good option to consider, as someone who can give you practical advice about the Family Court process and how best to navigate it. Ian Field, a Director of Aylward Game Solicitors, ticks all of these boxes. For practical advice based on years of experience, give us a call to book an initial appointment.
